Oliver Peoples 2014 Campaign Video

Listed below is a link to the Oliver Peoples 2014 Campaign video, featuring Amanda Randolph Hearst and directed by Wyatt Troll. The iconic backdrop of the campaign video is Hearst Castle, the beloved former estate of media mogul and visionary art collector William Randolph Hearst. The short film offers a rare glimpse into the legendary California landmark through the eyes of his great granddaughter, Amanda Hearst as she explores the estate and its treasures.

Larry Leight, Oliver Peoples Founder and Creative Director, together with cinematographer Wyatt Troll, had a vision for the campaign to capture an intimate view of the Hearst Castle through the eyes of its creator’s decedent. The film takes the viewer on a journey through several areas of the sprawling estate.

The spirited short film breathes life into the 2014 Oliver Peoples eyewear collections, which were inspired by the creative culture of art and entertainment in California that the Hearst Castle signifies.

Enjoy!

NEW TECHNOLOGY CONTACT LENS NOW AT MORTIMER HIRST

As a pioneering contact lens practice since the 1940s, Mortimer Hirst continues to practise at the leading edge of contact lens care. We are regularly asked to participate in clinical and premarket contact lens trials for the world’s leading contact lens manufacturers.

We are pleased to advise that we are one of the few practices in Australasia who have been fitting and supplying the latest breakthrough in contact lenses.

Dailies Total 1 from ALCON is a unique daily disposable contact lens that has gained widespread acclaim and superior results in Europe over the past two years. It has in fact been so successful that the manufacturers had difficulty meeting demand. Despite our repeated requests to obtain this lens it was delayed until such time that supply could be guaranteed.

Dailies Total 1 has a unique ‘gradient water content’ where the lens ‘core’ consists of a high oxygen transmitting silicone-hydrogel material which then gradually transitions to a high water content (over 80% water) hydrogel surface. Like a surrounding envelope. This unique structure makes for a lens which has a very smooth, highly lubricated surface. The lens has been shown - in our experience and by colleagues overseas - to provide improved comfort and reduced dryness throughout the wearing day while providing excellent vision and deposit resistance.

Value for money, hassle free convenience, improved safety, compliance, reduced allergic reactions and deposits that single use lenses provide, are additional benefits.
If you are thinking about contact lenses or have symptoms of dryness , discomfort or variable vision with your regular disposable or other one day disposables, please make an appointment to see one of our contact lens specialists. As part of our usual thorough optometric examination, we will assess your suitability for Dailies Total 1 and fit and provide some trial lenses so you can judge for yourself.

At present Dailies Total 1 lenses are only available for myopic (short-sighted) eyes requiring ‘minus’ lenses but we expect hyperopic (farsighted) ‘plus’ lenses later in 2014 and potentially astigmatism correcting (toric) lenses and presbyopia correcting multifocals in  2015.

Mortimer Hirst works closely with film, theatre, fashion shows, stylists, costume designers, magazines and catalogues. As well as providing eyewear and sunglasses along with advice, styling and fitting, the Optometrists and Contact lens Specialists work on film sets, fitting and managing special effect contact lenses such as on the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Mortimer Hirst has supplied the eyewear for the upcoming Auckland Theatre Company production Other Desert Cities. The play tells the story of a rich American family in all their Palm Springs glory and dysfunctional dynamics.

Myopia Control

Myopia control refers to techniques employed by specially trained optometrists to slow or even stop the progression of myopia (“short-sightedness”) in children and teenagers during the growing years. Often myopia is quite genetic, and parents who have gone short sighted themselves as youngsters will bring their children in to ask if anything can be done to “slow things down”? If a child’s prescription can be kept at a lower level, it’s much easier for them later on as adults because they are more suitable for laser surgery, and less likely to suffer from myopic complications such as retinal detachment. There are currently four techniques being used for myopia control:
1) Orthokeratology (“Ortho-K)- this involves sleeping in rigid gas permeable contact lenses at night to re-shape the cornea
2) Specialised multifocal soft lenses worn daily
3) Atropine 0.01% eye drops- still in experimental stages
4) Steeply curved spectacle lenses- have some effect
All these techniques try to achieve the same thing- providing the periphery of the retina with as sharp an image as possible. It has been proven in independent research that a blurred image on the peripheral retina encourages the eyeball to elongate, causing progressive myopia.
At Mortimer Hirst we have been fitting specialised Ortho-K and multifocal lenses for myopia control for the past 4 ½ years, with great success. Most of our children enrolled in these programmes enjoy stable non-deteriorating vision from when they start until 18-20 years old, when the myopia is unlikely to progress further anyway. For more information on these exciting techniques, please contact us for a brochure!
